MEET THE FOUNDER

Karren Clarke

Pain Relief Specialist · Kailua, Oʻahu

My journey into healing began in the Kinesiology program at Oregon State University. It gave me a deep respect for the science of the body, but it was taught in pieces. Muscles, bones, and systems each lived in their own chapter, and even fascia wasn’t fully covered.

Everything came together at Hawaii Healing Arts College. With my hands on fellow students, the pieces finally connected, and science became art. I learned to speak the language of the body and began to hear its responses through my hands as the tension in the tissues released.

That’s also where my focus was born. During student clinic hours, I’d find a knot and I just couldn’t leave it. I’d stay with it, using the basic deep tissue skills I had at the time, until it fully released. Then I’d look at the clock and realize I only had about 15 minutes left for the rest of the body.

Oops… I did it again.

I’ve worked that way ever since. Real relief comes from staying with the problem until it truly lets go. It’s still what I love most about this work. Science gives me the map. Art lets me improvise when the body takes me somewhere new.

Why Clients Choose Knots Out

Most of my clients come to me after trying everything else. Here’s what working with me looks like:

• I look for the root cause. Pain often shows up far from where it started, so I follow it to the source.

• I find what others miss. Clients often tell me I worked areas past therapists brushed right
over.

• I don’t give up. If pain persists, I try new approaches until we find what works best for each
person. Some need movement for release, while others need me to sit with their pain as
they breathe it out.

• I teach as I go. You’ll leave understanding your body, not just feeling better. I arm my
clients with a better idea of how they can help themselves in between sessions. (Pun
intended.)

When I’m Not at the Clinic

You can catch me out and about with my three boys. Every day is a new adventure: hiking,
skating, fishing, bodyboarding, and playing in the sand. I’m an optimist and a serial
entrepreneur who loves learning and exploring new ways of thinking. In my downtime, you’ll
find me reading books like Own or Be Owned and Leadership and Self-Deception.

Karren was terrific from the start. She called me very quickly to complete a consultation and was excited to work with me to find the root cause of my issue rather than just band-aid it. The first session provided relief that I’ve been seeking for years, when nothing else worked. It feels like magic, but it’s really all KARREN’s care, attention, and skill.

I had total knee replacement in March 2024 & still dealing with swelling and range of motion. After one session w/ Karren I had a huge improvement w/ range of motion with my hip. The cupping reduced the swelling above my knee. She released the tightness in my T-band, lats & hamstring. I was pretty amazed how just one session w/ Karren did so much. She truly listens & gets to work where it matters. I have become a big believer in cupping. Looking forward to more sessions.

I have been dealing with neck and arm pain for about 4 months not able to find any relief. I started searching and came across Knots Out Pain Relief. Walked in to Karrens office on my first session with 7/10 pain and walked out with none! The pain and heaviness I have been feeling in my arm was gone! Don't know how she did it but I am so grateful to have found her!

Going to Knots Out & receiving care from Karen has been such a great experience, I can’t imagine seeing anyone else to help me manage my pain. She really dives into the root of the issues, and if any pain persists, she tries to find more/different solutions to tackle the trouble areas, which I really appreciate, since most doctors like to throw the same physical therapy and pain medication “treatments” at me with no improvement. Karen herself is also such a sweet and friendly person, it’s always a pleasure to see her. Highly recommend Knots Out, well worth the price!

Karren was highly recommended by a friend, and did not disappoint. She got into and released years of chronic tension with both knowledge and intuition, using a variety of techniques and movement. Karren really pinpointed my troubled areas and I’m looking forward to continue working with her.

I can’t say enough good things about Knots Out Pain Relief! I came in dealing with some serious lower back pain, and Karen worked absolute magic. From the moment the session started, she was professional, knowledgeable, and really took the time to focus on the areas that needed attention most. Karen’s technique and attention to detail made a huge difference. By the end of the session, the tension and pain in my lower back had significantly improved. You can tell she genuinely cares about helping people feel better and takes pride in her work. If you’re dealing with muscle pain, tightness, or just need a great massage, I highly recommend checking them out. Huge thanks to Karen for the amazing work, my back definitely appreciates it!

I’ve been dealing with heel pain and a heel spur for a long time and stumbled onto Karren’s website one night while searching for mayofascia release therapy. I’ve been to lots of massage and physical therapists but Karren is different as she tries to really target the specific issue you are dealing with and with techniques I haven’t experienced with other therapists. Have gone a couple times so far and have had tremendous results in just the few short sessions. Today was the first time in a long time I was walking around with no pain in my heel and I know it’s because of the work she has been doing on my leg. Highly, highly recommend ❤️

Karren is hands down the best massage therapist I’ve been to on island. As a therapist myself, I know what it takes to achieve pain free results for clients. Karren has a deep understanding of the body and what specific massage techniques are required to improve any muscular-skeletal issue. Highly recommend her to anyone with serious chronic and acute pain, especially related to injuries and an active lifestyle.

FAQ

If you have any other Question not answered here please call or text.

How would I qualify to become a patient?

We begin with a consultation where you share details about your pain or mobility issue. This helps us determine if we’re the right fit — we only move forward if we’re confident we can help. If not, we’re happy to refer you to a trusted specialist.

What types of conditions do you treat?

We specialize in chronic pain, shoulder and hip mobility issues, and low back discomfort. Our focus is on identifying root causes and restoring movement so you can return to the activities you love.

Is this like a regular massage clinic?

Not quite. We’re a more private, results-driven practice that focuses on long-term healing — not temporary relaxation. Every session is intentional, with a plan designed specifically for your needs.

How often do I need to come in?

Frequency depends on your condition and treatment goals. Some clients find relief after a few sessions, while others benefit from ongoing support. We’ll create a custom plan during your initial consultation.
